CLEANING GOLD PLATED, VERMEIL AND GOLD FILLED JEWELRY
As with sterling, preventive care is important for maintaining your gold vermeil jewelry. Vermeil jewelry will tarnish like sterling silver because-well, it is sterling silver-and exposure to air is the primary culprit in tarnishing. Store the jewelry in an airtight container – either a jewelry box or a zip bag. You can also use these  anti-tarnish strips in your jewelry box or bag.

Some important notes for cleaning vermeil jewelry, gold plate and sterling:

  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush or soft lint free cloth. and gentle dish soap to clean the gold plated jewelry under warm running water. Make sure you rinse well and wipe with a soft non-abrasive cloth to dry. Water residue can cause staining. Make sure the piece is fully dry before returning to storage.
  • Buff or clean the gold plate with a soft, dry cotton cloth. DO NOT use a silver polishing cloth It will strip the finish off quickly, leaving you with just the sterling silver underneath.
  •  This is a great eco-friendly jewelry dip for gold plate, Vermeil, and sterling. Line a dish with aluminum foil. Pour in hot water. Add equal parts salt and baking soda . Put in the jewelry pieces so they touch the foil. Let sit a few minutes you should be able to see the tarnish disappear. The tarnish mill migrate to the foil. Rinse and wipe dry.

HOW TO PUT ON YOUR HOOPS

The wire is stationary and should NOT be bent up or down or side to side to get the earrings on. Doing so will weaken the wire and cause it to break off.

Hold the front of the hoop between your thumb and index finger. Place the index finger from your opposite hand behind the ear lobe.   Gently put the wire through the piercing you should feel the wire go through when it touches your finger. When you feel the wire go through to the opposite side gently slide the ear lobe in. The ear lobe should pop right in easily. To remove hold the front between your thumb and forefinger and gently slide off.

The silicone backs are for extra security and don’t have to be used. They just twist on to the wire with a screw like motion if you choose to use them.
